He was a Chilean pianist, composer and professor. Carlos Botto was born in Viña del Mar in 1923,

Moderna de Música, he became in director of National Conservatory between 1961
and 1968. He also was president of The Musical Younths between 1961 and 1974.
His music for piano
is very interesting and complex, for example his “Caprichos” for piano are a
great work which have a big development of harmony and form. Today his music is
important to any Chilean pianist, his pieces are an essential part in the Chilean
repertory. He received a lot distinctions for his music that He presented in musical
festivals.
Finally, He received the National Art Prize in 1996 (his
prize most important). Carlos Botto died in Santiago in 2004. If you want to
study Carlos Botto’s music, you can find a lot scores in our library in Universidad de Chile. I recomend you to begin with the preludes for piano. There is a version of these preludes in youtube by Elvira Savi.

Carlos Botto is a great composer. Their "Caprichos" are very beautiful. I emphasize that it also has two works for guitar: Fatasia Nº 1 dedicated to Oscar Holsen and Fantasia Nº2 dedicated to Luis Orlandini.
